Diverse Communities, Shared Understanding

We address gender issues from an intersectional lens, and develop practical strategies for creating inclusive environments for our Nogojiwanong community.

The Trent Centre for Gender & Social Justice is a grassroots organization and Trent University Levy Group dedicated to creating community, resources, and advocating for folks affected by gender-based marginalization in Nogojiwanong-Peterborough.

Established 1986, we have been a part of this community for almost forty years.

  • The Centre has commissioned two community-based research projects examining the needs of marginalized groups in Nogojiwanong-Peterborough. We continue to ask our community for their ideas and feedback. Our goal is for our programming to reflect the actual needs and desires of our communities, not just buzzwords.

  • The Centre offers a variety of community resource programs designed to uplift and support gender marginalized people living in Nogojiwanong/Peterborough.

  • The Centre hosts a variety of events every year designed to create safe spaces to meet new people and build community support/networks.

Our Mandate

The CGSJ is an inclusive space to meet, share, create and organize with people from the Trent, Nogojiwanong-Peterborough communities who share a commitment to our mandate.

The CGSJ is committed to community-based care and mutual aid and finding ways to redistribute resources locally. We prioritize the needs of 2SLGBTQIA+ people, BIPOC folks, and all those affected by gender-based oppression.

We use a social justice model that is informed by a holistic understanding of anti-oppression and feminist politics. This model aims to recognize the ways in which ideas and experiences of gender are shaped by colonialism, racism, classism, ableism, cis-heteronormativity and all other forms of oppression. We approach our work within an intersectional lens, and opt for restorative justice practices over carceral feminism.

Support Us!

The Centre is a small but rapidly expanding community organization dedicated to taking a radically transparent and direct approach to community issues. We are not federally or provincially funded and rely on the donations of community members to continue our work.

  • Every donation goes towards making sure our programming continues to make Peterborough a safer and more empowering community for marginalized folks. No donation is too small!

  • The Centre is not currently able to provide tax receipts for any donations. We hope to rectify this in the coming months, thank you for your patience!

  • We are accepting donations via Zeffy, a digital donation platform. Please find our donation portal here.
